The new Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Bayo Phillip held his first official meeting with the staff of the Ministry.
Mr. Phillip used the occasion to remind the workers what the system required of public servants and the type of attitude that is best for the system.
The Permanent Secretary said attitude matters in what everyone does, adding that the attitude to work must be consistent with the laid down rules and regulations of the civil service.
According to him, quality service must not be compromised under any guise.
He remarked that the responsibilities of the Ministry are time bound, stressing that each officer owe the system the duty of delivering his task in good quality and in time.
"My attitude to work is simple: don't deliver late, as a lapse on the part of an officer can derail meeting official deadline. There is no compromise on efficiency and effectiveness. Make yourself available by being punctual every time. We must not allow our passion and enthusiasm for our work to go down."
The Permanent Secretary reiterated that everyone working in the Ministry is important. According to him, everyone, from Office Assistants, Drivers to Directors must work hand in hand to make the system to function smoothly.
"Nobody should belittle his work. We all contribute in our small ways to the effectiveness of the whole. I cannot do what the Clerk or Driver does. Each person is an integral part one way or another. Government even recognizes this importance hence we have Chief Driver, Chief Executive Officer etc.
The well-attended meeting had in attendance all the Directors, Deputy Directors, Unit and Section heads.
